Solar energy, a realistic green option for flying?

An aeroplane that flies on solar energy, science fiction? It exists already, reports De Telegraaf that has a story on the so-called Solar Impulse, which will be presented in Switzerland on Friday. The plane has 11,000 thousand solar panels and it can climb to 12,000 metres.

Downside is it can only take one passenger and aviation experts are sceptical to say the least, reports the paper. They say that it will never be possible for a large passenger plane to have enough solar panels to generate enough energy to fly. Biofuel is seen by the experts as a much more realistic green option for flying.
